Every month, we highlight one of our staff members so you can get to know the MHED team a little bit better. This month we spoke with MHED Program Director Angela Hunt!

Tell us about your family and your background.

I have worked for MHED for just over 3 years. I have a bachelor’s degree in public relations from Northwest Missouri State University and master’s degree in performance improvement from Grantham University. Before I came to MHED, I worked for more than 8 years at an online university as the director of education outreach. I love working in the education industry as I believe education is one of the best investments you can give yourself.

I have been married for almost 20 years to Kevin. When I married Kevin, I immediately became a mom to his beautiful daughter Maddi who was 4 when we got married. Maddi is now 23 and works as a registered nurse at Northwestern University Hospital in Chicago. We have a son together, Ethan, who is 17 and attends Staley Highschool and loves playing lacrosse. Kevin is a battalion chief for the Kansas City, MO Fire Department. I am so fortunate to have such a wonderful and supportive family.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

My favorite thing to do outside of work is spend time with my family. We love traveling together, experiencing new foods and restaurants, and hanging out with our extended family. I very much enjoy anything that keeps me active — working out, running, hiking, and swimming. I also love to cook for my family and I am always looking for new recipes to try out on them. I have a wonderful group of friends and we try to get together at least once a month or every other month.

What is your favorite part about working at MHED?

The best part about working for MHED is all the people that I get to meet and work with on a daily basis. We have over 660 substitute teachers on staff and work with over 60 schools. Every day is a new adventure and I love knowing that we are helping to ensure that students are getting a good education even when their teachers are absent.

What have been some of your biggest accomplishments in life thus far?

Being a mom and a wife is definitely my best accomplishment. In 2012, I went back to school to get my master’s degree while working full-time and raising my family. Setting aside money each month for a travel fund is also something I am proud of. We try and take our kids on vacation every year and looking back, those vacations are some of the best family memories that I have.

What is one thing you would like substitute teachers to know about you?

Our MHED team is very passionate about making sure that we have quality substitute teachers in every classroom. We care about each of our substitute teachers and are always thinking about what we can do here in the office to ensure that our substitute teachers are well trained and feel appreciated.
