Sub of the Month

Rachel is the sub of the month because we appreciate her hard work, dependability, and willingness to jump right in and help wherever needed. It is always a sigh of relief when we know Rachel can go in and do whatever is asked.

What do you like most about being a Substitute Teacher?

I like being in different rooms with different kids. I like seeing how other teachers are doing things. I also like having the option for a long-term assignment and building relationships with students.

Why did you become a Substitute Teacher-what is your background or other jobs you have had?

I have a degree in Biology from KU. I previously worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at Children’s Mercy Hospital for 11 years.

What is your favorite grade level/subject to teach?

I prefer intermediate students. I like teaching math and science.

What do you feel the students like most about you when you fill in as the teacher?

When I read aloud to them. It is a strength of mine.

What do you do in your free time when you are not working?

Spend time with family. Play with my niece and my dog.

Tell us about your family.

I have a mom, dad, and two sisters. I also consider my dog part of my family.

Tell us something unique about yourself.

I like British literature and miniseries. I have been to Prince Edward Island in Canada and would like to retire there someday.
